Age 14 Part 11
The crepe shop seems to be a new store. It’s popular because the prices are reasonable.
"Even if they're reasonable, they are out of our reach."
Since I can make crepes, I’ll make some for you guys next time. But since the crepes sold here can only be found in Sara's hometown, I wonder if someone from her hometown is making them.
I'd like to tell Sara, but I can't contact her since she's with the Marquis' family.
"Look, it's over there."
"Huh? There’s no line. It was crowded just a moment ago."
But it's good there’s no line, it means we can buy it quickly.
"Oh, I knew it. It's sold out."
"What? Again?"
Mal and Fritz shouted in disappointment. Looking closely, there are many others who are also disappointed.
Crepes are really popular.
"How much are they selling for?"
"The cheapest ones are two copper coins."
"Is that cheap?"
I don’t really know much about prices. I only understood the price of the rice I bought earlier because I could compare it to the price of the wheat next to it.
"It's the cheapest among the stalls. Usually, they cost four to five copper coins."
Selling at half price must mean they’re selling them really cheaply. I wonder if they’re making any profit.
"Lady Anna!"
Someone suddenly called me with a title, so I turned around. Who would still call me that now?
"Sara, why are you here?"
I hadn't seen Sara for a month. Since I it was expected that once I started attending the academy, I would no longer be needing cooking lessons. I thought she was still working for the Marquis' family. Once my acceptance to the academy was confirmed, I planned to visit her. I didn't expect to be kicked out of the Marquis' family on the day the results were announced, so I couldn't say goodbye to Sara, which I regretted.
And now Sara is in front of me.
"I could have stayed at the Sennet Marquis' family, but the chef was very strict, so I decided to quit. I wanted to tell about that to you, Lady Anna, but I wasn't allowed to see you. I never thought I’d meet you here."
"I see. I didn't know you had left the Marquis' family. Do you know I’m not a child of the Sennet Marquis' family?"
"Yes, I heard it from a former housemaid of the Sennet Marquis' family who came to buy crepes. I heard you were kicked out, but I didn’t expect you to be living as a commoner."
Sara looked surprised at my clothes and my hair, which was usually styled by maids. I tried my best, but I couldn't match the skill of a veteran maid. In the end, I just tied my hair at the back. It’s a big difference from when I lived as a Marquis’ daughter, so I understand Sara’s surprise.
"Yes, I was swapped by a fairy and just returned to my real self. Now I live with my real family. Thanks to what you taught me, I can at least cook, which is very helpful."
Mal and Fritz seemed bewildered in front of Sara. She took out something with jam and white cream from the box she was organizing and handed it to them.
"You came to buy crepes, right? Unfortunately, I can't make any more because I'm out of ingredients, but there are some crepes left that are not fit to be sold because they got torn, so please have them."
"Huh?"
Mal and Fritz looked bewildered at the beautifully decorated crepes.
"Do you not want them because they’re failed products?"
Sara murmured worriedly, but the two shook their heads vigorously. As they started eating, I thanked Sara.
"Thank you. They’re really happy. By the way, this crepe dough seems different from what we used to make."
Sara laughed as I looked at the crepes they were eating.
"Can you tell? I mix buckwheat flour with wheat flour because using only wheat flour is expensive."
"Buckwheat flour?"
When I learned, we only used wheat flour. I hadn’t learned to make crepes with buckwheat flour.
"While looking for cheap wheat flour, I found that buckwheat flour was very cheap, so I decided to use it. You can’t run a business without making a profit."
Sara seemed radiant as she talked about her business keeping profit in mind.
"Delicious! This crepe was really good."
"Yeah, it’s super tasty!"
Mal and Fritz looked extremely satisfied. Since they’re so happy, I’ll make crepes for them next time.
"Still, if you’re selling out at this time, I think you should prepare more ingredients to sell more."
"Do you think so too, Lady Anna? But the ingredients are quite heavy, and it’s hard to carry them alone."
As Sara said, if you buy a lot of wheat flour, it’s heavy and difficult to carry. And the ingredients aren’t just wheat flour.
"Huh? Do you carry the ingredients by yourself?"
"Yes, I do."
"You should hire adventurers. Many people hire them for carrying loads."
Mal also earns money by carrying loads when he can’t gather herbs in winter. Sara was pleased to hear this good idea and decided to request Mal and Fritz specifically.
Since Mal and Fritz had to gather herbs in the afternoon, our first shopping trip ended here.
Yaaayyy! Sara!!! ⸜(●^▾^●)⸝
